Playing for the Kent Havoc Rugby Football Club over the years has taught me a great deal about teamwork, pride, humility, discipline and culture. When I first stepped foot onto the pitch, I soon discovered I was getting into the toughest, fastest paced, scariest but most freeing sport in the world.
Being a rugby player is a game of snapshots, from moment to moment you experience small wins and losses. It’s very humbling as you have to learn quickly to pick yourself up and keep going. One of my favourite aspects of rugby is the culture. Rugby players respect their opponents and referees and when the game is over, everyone hangs out as friends.
I broke out of my shell both personally and professionally, as most rugby players can attest; the sport shapes you and helps you become the best version of yourself. I found new ways to push myself off the field and commit to new experiences.
Working as a police officer in our community has been the epitome of my adventure thus far. I thank rugby for priming me to excel in this field.
Whatever hobbies or aspirations you enjoy, keep doing things that break you out of your comfort zone. Don’t be afraid to take chances. You’ll be amazed at where life takes you.
