Did you know that you can still be a police officer as a living organ donor and diabetic. I am proof of both.
My brother and sister were both diagnosed with a rare kidney disease as children, which meant they both would require transplants. My mom donated a kidney to my brother and I donated to my sister. It was a very profound time in my life. It is in their memory that I advocate for organ and tissue donation and actively volunteer with the Kidney Foundation of Canada. I am also a type one diabetic. It was much to my surprise that approximately 4 years ago I received this diagnoses. It has been life altering but it has not stopped me from doing all the things that I enjoy. My hope is that by sharing my experience it promotes awareness, understanding and encouragement to anyone living with similar situations. Life will bring many difficulties that we, as individuals, cannot control. The only thing we can control is how we react to it.
When I am not working or studying, I enjoy outdoor activities such as boating, fishing and hiking. I have a huge soft spot for animals. I collect antique perfume bottles. I love horror movies, day tripping on beautiful sunny days and spending time with friends and family around a campfire.
