Officers selected to work in the Major Crime / Criminal Investigations Section receive specialized training in the fields of death investigation, interviewing and interrogation, sexual assault investigations, and the management of major cases.
Investigative officers utilize the principles of the Ontario Major Case Management system which sets standards governing the investigation of major cases, including the organization and analysis of the large volume of information that is frequently collected in such cases.
Investigative officers work closely with members of the Forensic Identification Section. Officers also work closely with members of the Crown Attorney’s Office, the Office of the Chief Coroner, and pathologists and experts from the Centre of Forensic Sciences. Investigators also work closely with the Crime Stoppers Unit which often provides very critical and useful information.
Investigating major crimes is not possible without the support of members of the community. If a member of the public has information about an unsolved major case, however trivial that information may seem, they are encouraged to call the Chatham-Kent Police Service at 519-436-6600 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
