The Chatham-Kent Police Service responded to 132 calls for service in the last 24 hours. Eight people were arrested, and five were on outstanding warrants.
Man Arrested for Intimate Partner Violence CK23001256
On January 8, 2023, at 6:53 a.m., police responded to Water Street in Wallaceburg for a domestic disturbance.
Through investigation, police learned the man initiated a verbal argument with the woman. The argument escalated when the man struck the woman in the jaw, causing it to swell. Police also learned of historical incidents that resulted in other injuries.
The 59-year-old Wallaceburg man was arrested and charged with assault, two counts of forcible confinement and two counts of assault causing bodily harm. He was transported to police headquarters and held pending a bail hearing.
Man Arrested for Robbery CK23001308
On January 7, 2023, at 2:42 p.m., police received information of an attempted robbery at the TD Bank ATM on James Street in Wallaceburg.
Police learned the man attempted to take the victim’s money as it was being dispensed, resulting in a physical altercation. Both individuals sustained minor physical injuries. The man fled the scene, and the victim reported the incident to the police. Police examined the scene for forensic evidence and received a description of the man.
On January 8, 2023, at 2:18 p.m., police observed the man walking westbound on Main Street in Wallaceburg. Upon arrest, the man attempted to flee from police custody.
The 31-year-old Wallaceburg man was arrested and charged with robbery and resisting arrest. He was transported to police headquarters and released with conditions and a future court date of February 6, 2023.
Man and Woman Arrested for Possession of a Stolen Vehicle CK23001387
At 12:07 a.m., police conducted a traffic stop on Scane Road in Howard Township. The plates were registered to another vehicle.
Through investigation, police learned the vehicle was reported stolen from a business on Mitton Line in August 2022. The occupants were arrested. Police also discovered the man did not possess a valid driver’s license.
The 31-year-old Wallaceburg woman was charged with possession of stolen property over $5000. She was released with a future court date.
The 27-year-old Ridgetown man was charged with possession of stolen property over $5000, driving while suspended and using an unauthorized license plate. He was transported to police headquarters and held pending a bail hearing.
