Are trailers permitted to be parked on the street or the side of the street, if not attached to a tow vehicle?

Thanks for your question, We currently do not have a by-law regulation which prohibits a detached trailer from parking on a roadway. However, a trailer is considered a vehicle under the HTA and is therefore subject to the same regulations under it and the Chatham-Kent Traffic and Parking By-law. For example, the trailer can only remain parked on a roadway for 6 consecutive hours between 8AM and 6PM each day before it has to be moved. Also, if the trailer has a gross vehicle weight of over 6,000 kgs (six tonnes) it is a heavy vehicle and cannot park on any roadway where heavy vehicles are prohibited.
